Suspended IPS officer Amitabh Thakur News Today 15 july 2015

New Delhi: Suspended Uttar Pradesh IPS officer Amitabh Thakur is firm on his demand of a Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the alleged rape case filed against him and alleged there is a political, criminal and police nexus against him.

"Police officers are involved in the controversy - 100%. There is no doubt in it. The woman who alleged rape had in one of her complaints said that she has been threatened by me and gave a phone number but it was later found to be that of a constable Mazhar in Gomti Nagar police station. The lady's husband is an active Samajwadi Party member, so there is a political, criminal and police nexus and that is why I'm seeking a CBI enquiry as I have not done anything wrong. The particular FIR was registered on the day I went to register an FIR against Mulayam Singh Yadav," Thakur said.

The controversy erupted after the senior officer received a phone call allegedly from Samajwadi party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav who threatened Thakur to mend his ways or face the consequences. Thakur filed a police complaint against Mulayam and claimed that as a result, an alleged rape case was filed against him.

Recalling the threat call, Thakur said, "To the best of my knowledge and information, the threat call was about illegal mining in which state mining minister Gayatri Prajapati is supposed to be deeply embroiled. My wife Nutan Thakur made a call to the state Lokayukta on December 26, 2014 about the illegal mining and she has made this complaint at a time when one Mr Om Shankar Dwivedi from Pratapgarh had made a complaint and withdrew it immediately in a strangely suspicious circumstances which led to the rumour that he had actually been purchased. So after that Nutan made the complaint. On January 2, 2015 she presented certain important evidences before the Lokayukta which the agency deeply appreciated."

Thakur claimed that he got the first threat call on January 3 and the very next day the evidences were presented in the illegal mining.

Thakur called the alleged rape case "the concocted story surprisingly by powerful elements like Gayatri Prajapati".
Thakur also denied applying for bail in the case and said, "I will not apply for bail and prefer going to jail. I would take it as an honour to be one of the many who have to suffer because of having to come up with something right."

The 1992-batch IPS officer, currently an IG rank officer, also met Ministry for Home Affairs officials on Monday and requested it to ask the Uttar Pradesh government to initiate a CBI enquiry and he would move the High Court as well.

On Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav's remark that his father Mulayam was just giving an advise, Thakur said, "I don't take it as an advice if a person is beaten or criminally assaulted. If things much severe than that can happen 'if you do not mend your ways' and 'mending my ways' meant registering an FIR even though he did not mention it, and the latest FIR was against Gayatri Prajapati who is supposed to be the blue-eyed boy of Mulayam. The sequence of events do not in any manner point out to being guided by him in a fatherly manner."

The alleged threat call also made a mention of an incident that took place in 2006. Narrating the incident, Thakur said, "The incident was of Jasrana when I was the Superintendent of Police of Firozabad. I and the Firozabad District Magistrate went to Jasrana where Ramvir Singh, a relative of Mulayam, had a VIP program. I have strained relations with Ramvir Singh and on that particular day something happened and he and his men got agitated and criminally assaulted me and I reported that matter in Eka police station in Firozabad. But before that I came to my residence and had a word with the then CM Mulayam, who told me not to get FIR registered and asked me to come to Lucknow. The only legal recourse was to get an FIR registered and after I did that, I was transferred very soon."

Thakur claims that he has been getting many threatening calls and he believe it to be from Mulayam's supporters.

Thakur was suspended on Monday amid the tussle with the Samajwadi Party chief on charges of violating service rules.

On July 11, an FIR was registered at Gomti Nagar police station in Lucknow against Thakur under sections 376 (rape), 504 (intentional insult) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC, on the basis of an earlier complaint by a Ghaziabad-based woman. The IPS officer's wife has been named a co-accused in the FIR.
